This Is... Recycling Dubai Style

Our theme today is this is my way of recycling.

In Dubai there is no kerbside collection for recycling so here is our routine-

Step 1- Recyclables go into our trusty ikea hamper, and newspapers into a paper bag.

Step 2- On shopping day we drop the newspapers at ikea to be used at the check out for wrapping around breakables and the rest of the waste is dropped off at a recycling centre near home.

  1. I must say I take my kerbside collection for granted! Well done for making the effort to recycle when it takes more organisation.

  3. It certainly takes more commitment to have to go out of your way to recycle. We are spoilt here in Australia, and in Canberra where the aim is to be Waste Free by 2010.

  4. Good work with your recycling. I never realised how lucky we were to have it all picked up at our house.

  9. Your recycling center is so much more cheerful looking than the dirty rusty old bins at my recycling center. Yours is so colorful!

  10. Here in SoCal, we have both the curbside (uh, I mean kurbside) pick up and recylcling centers but, like lorih, our recycling centers aren't nearly as interesting to look at as yours. Especially the ones that pay you for your recyclables, they're down right dirty!

  11. It is so interesting to see how everyone recycles around the world. Who knew that there was no kerbside pickup in Dubai. Very interesting and I love that you take your paper to ikea to be used in wrapping around brakables, great idea.

  13. Wow, after just reading a blog about how in Japan they are so pro-recycling, that you have to do the 'walk of shame' by bringing your rubbish back into your house if you didn't sort it correctly - this is a very stark contrast. I think it's great that you are taking the initiative to do such a good thing even when it is not made easy for you :)

  14. Wow good on you, you have to make more of an effort to recycle but you still do it!(..and good on ikea for allowing people to drop off old newspaper. I like that idea.

  17. Thanks for your comments. I think that Japan as listed by Melanie at http://kimonoreincarnate.blogspot.com and Dubai are polar opposites.

Our recycling centre probably looks so cheerful because it is located at a primary school.

    Thanks again for visiting strickerin.

  18. So you have to separate just like we do in Japan! But as Bec said, we have to whether we want to or not, it's great to hear that you're making the extra, unobligated effort.
