Who receives a cardi for a birthday present in January?

Our precious friend Millie. That is who.

It does feel strange when it is meltingly hot preparing to gift this, but at least it will be ready for the cooler weather. I have made this one with a machine washable nylon acrylic blend to keep things as simple as possible for Millie's Mum.

A knitty and kitty new year

With the monsoon we have been experiencing and the lack of school run in the day I have been able to make some time for knitting. This is the Helena I mentioned in my last post, just about finished and ready to be gifted to our friend.

For mindless evening knitting, I have completed Baktus though don't have any photos yet as I have not sewn in all the ends.

Other than that, there really is not much more to report other than the sad news that our very old cat, Venny has gone to kitty heaven where she is no longer annoyed by children, having to wait a whole two minutes for her food and the big cat next door.

Craft to brighten a rainy day

I found a great tutorial to make these paper flowers at How About Orange a little while back. Today seemed like a great day to give them a go. We flipped though magazines to choose which pages to use and I pity B's future partner. She was immediately drawn to the Tiffany ad.

The girls have also been working on sewing some gift tags which I can't show here in case any of the recipients read this, and I am knitting another Helena for a little friend's January birthday, because nothing says happy birthday like a cardi in the middle of summer.

New cardi

She just keeps on growing! All the other cardigans I have made for her have already been passed on to little friends so it was time I make another one.

Also it is very hard to get a shot of her sitting still. As soon as I snapped this she was back to her usual antics.

Love Fridays

This weekend is a bit of a non event as DH is away on business making it feel like business as usual. Still with nausea, I am not venturing far from home these days so my plans are to-

Finish knitting my uterus. (I am sure that is on the top of everyone else's to do list)

Spend some time with my girls which is a nice thing about Fridays. The week is a social time for them, but at least for Friday morning they tend to stay home.

And not a whole lot more. You can see what everyone else who is playing Love Fridays is up to at Tinniegirl

Our woolies are ready for some lovin'

We are off to Melbourne in the morning, with a little prayer to St Christopher or whoever the saint who looks after travellers is as we are flying QANTAS. I never thought I would see the day when I was feeling uneasy about stepping on to one of their planes....

Anyway, back to nice things, here are some of the woolies I have been working on over the last few weeks all packed up and ready to go. The scarves are made following a simple yet effective looking stitch pattern that I found at Yarn Harlot. Also piggle and a variation of calorimetry from knitty can be found among our goodies.

I was enjoying knitting up these scarves so much that I made this one for a friend. His was made with a thicker yarn and I think that the pattern really popped in his. Here it is all bundled up with the care instructions from the ball band attached to one of my Moo cards.

I Spy Some Great Looking Bags Over at Knitty

I bought several 350g balls of cotton with no particular project in mind and tonight Knitty's summer edition came out with the perfect use- shopping bags!

Twinkletoes 2.0

It was a year ago today that I posted photos of Twinkletoes from Knitty that I made for G, always with the intention to make a pair for B as well.

I did it this past weekend and here are the results.
And here we are with big sister's much loved pair.

Odessa and Calorimetry

I am yet to knit something for myself that I love and wear. Hopefully I will love Odessa because right now I am not quite convinced. I always look like a boy when I am wearing beanies. Oh and no beads, suprise suprise.

The new Calorimetry is for the girls lovely nanny, Sasha. She might even let me get a photo of her modeling it.

Feeling Just Swell

Swell was another quick and simple project, though again the question can be asked why knit this when we are moving so soon. Long ago I promised G a flap hat so here it is.

Calorimetry- finally

So what do you knit just weeks from moving to the desert where temps are going above 40 degrees C everyday, Calorimetry of course. But I have been promising it to G for months now, it is quite cold here, and I still have plenty of this yarn which I also used for her leggings and Twinkletoes.

Oh and, as you do, she is sniffing her weetbix. Of course.

Twinkletoes

How cute are these? I love quick little project like this because not only is it a finished object in just a few hours, but often there is the chance to learn new skills. For this I learned provisional cast on (favourite method here) and decreasing cast off.

Yesterday I was also shown the stretchy cast off using a tapestry needle which I will use in an upcoming garment.

Sugar on Snow is Complete

Here it is. Watching the leaves grow was a lot of fun. They are such a great shape and we so quick and easy. I have decided for our autumn nature table to make a few in varying colours.

New project was started in the car last night; another soaker for Amber. I might make this one longies actually.

Sugar on Snow Update

I have finished the main hat / neck warmer part of Sugar on Snow I used a strand of beige and also some green. Unfortunately the green is too lime so I wasn't feel very motivated to finish it off, but G has been running around in the nud with just the hat on. No pic of that coming soon. :) Here is my work so far...

Piggle!

Piggle mark one is complete! G is ok with the small amount of purple in it and will probably actually wear it when the weather gets cold. I really enjoyed working with the lace pattern, which really pops when the hat is actually on. I will try to get one of both girls wearing them when the second one is finished.

It has been a busy January

Longies. I will post a pic of them being modelled as soon as I can get madam to hold relatively still for a photo
Amber's soaker. I want to do a few more before I send them over.
Fetching. G loves them so much, I will make some for her in pink.
One of the many SIGG Bottle cozies. I felted and lanolised them so they keep condensation from getting into our bags. Still have a few to felt and give as gifts.

I had a go at Sugar on Snow as well. I just need to finish off the leaves and we are done.
